Course content

The free "Heat Pump Online Training" (WP-Online for short) consists of six exciting learning modules with lots of illustrations, videos, exercises and interactive elements. It is primarily aimed at trainees in the HVAC trade, but also at teachers and trainers who want to organise their lessons in a different way or are interested in varied material on the subject of heat pumps.

The technical and practical knowledge has been compiled by industry experts and presented in an exciting and accessible way for young tradespeople. It is also suitable for experienced tradespeople who are "newcomers" to the field of heat pumps, as the learning modules comprehensively present the legal and regulatory framework and even explain technologically sophisticated content.

Module 1: Introduction to climate protection and heat pumps

This module contains a general introduction to climate change and the energy transition and compares the impact of different building heating systems. The introduction to the heat pump serves as the basis for the following learning modules.

Module 2: Basics of heat pump technology I

In Module 2, you will learn how a heat pump works, how a heating system based on it is constructed, including the heat source and heat utilisation system, and how the efficiency is calculated and evaluated.

Module 3: Fundamentals of heat pump technology II

This course covers the dimensioning of heat pump systems, explains cooling and hot water preparation with heat pumps and provides the basics and special features of the hydraulic integration of heat pumps.

Module 4: Modernisation with heat pumps

Module 4 deals with a specific example project. In a detached house, an oil boiler is replaced with an air-to-water heat pump (monobloc). After the basics of modernisation with heat pumps, the planning, construction and commissioning of the example system are presented.

Module 5: Heat pumps in new buildings

Module 5 also shows a concrete example project - in this case a modern new build. The detached house is fitted with a brine-to-water heat pump (probe well). All aspects of planning, construction and commissioning are shown in detail. In addition, the topics of energy standards, smart homes and neighbourhoods can be explored in greater depth in three excursions.

Module 6: Operation and maintenance

The last module of the online training is about heat pumps that have already been installed. Firstly, you will learn the basics for successful commissioning and instructing customers. You will also gain valuable knowledge about regular tasks, common faults and how to rectify them for the various designs of the most important heat pump types (air, water and brine-to-water heat pumps).

Further products

The heat pump online training can optionally be combined with the Wärmepumpen-Führerschein be completed. This comprises 60 questions from the six learning modules mentioned above.
